Feel in your house like at your home!
House or a flat should suit the person like his clothes. It also should have a character but not it`s own but a character of it`s owner. Such idea came up few years ago and was loved by a fashion and home decor magazines that started to show people reading books, walking, sleeping rather than empty interiors. It also came up that our house and it`s home decor that`s us with small things that we love - not only wallpapers or furniture, carpets.
Show me your home.
I think that each one of us moved in into a beautiful designed house or apartment and felt really strange in there. It`s because this place wasn`t designed to a particular person. Some people like live colours, having a lot of items at home while others don`t. We can`t live against ourselves. And that`s happening when someone else is decorating without knowing our needs. And on the other side - the interior is getting the qualities of it`s owner. When coming to someones apartment fast you can tell what kind of person it is.
Selling happy places
Also the difference in thinking about home decorating is shown in the shops with home decor items, furniture. None of them is selling single items. And the furniture aren`t just waiting in the shops but are arranged like a particular interiors. Stepping into the shop you don`t have to use your imagination to see how the furniture and home accessories would look like at your home. They have already prepared interiors just to placed into their homes. At special exhibitions interiors have even artificial people, happy families, inside to imitate a living at such room.
Call of nature of the XXI century
Our home is like our territory - more our stuff than better. It`s like marking the territory in the XXI century. We feel very strong need to manifest our personality, i.e. with furniture. But we don`t really know how to make space that we own really lived by ourselves and showing our real nature. That`s why we are looking for a good designers with whom we can share our needs and thoughts. The designer will know if we like warm colours, classic furniture and soft materials or a cold colours, modern furniture. Don`t be surprise if the designer ask you about a colour of favourite shirt - maybe this will be the best colour for a table cloth?
Totally different items
very often our home decor with nothing. We usually have some stuff from old apartment and we don`t want to get rid of them. It might be even a dinner serve that belonged to our grandfather and function as a family souvenir. It has a special meaning to us that`s why we are taking it from place to place, changing apartments but not changing the `antiques`. And that is how the need of matching totally different things appears. We are mixing old stuff with modern furniture. Our interior is a sort of a compilation of things that we have from our family home, gifts from friends, stuff of our partner that we are starting to live with etc. It`s not easy to make one compact interior from it.
Adding/Removing
Even if the certain elements won`t give a compact integrity there is still a chance to have an interesting interior. The easiest way is a colourful interior. Let`s paint a few walls (it doesn`t have to be every wall) in a one specific colour, f.e claret. It would be a background for all our furniture. And then the only thing left is to find some small accessories that would match this background: cotton blankets for a sofa in living room, soft carpet in bedroom or a vase that will stand in corridor. If one colour isn`t enough we can pick also a second one and buy accessories to a whole house. A perfect solution is to have the accessories in both colours at the whole house. Looking for stuff that would really suit us and will make our home/apartment a compact place - this is the thing that we need to learn. Even if we had to get rid of some things.
Sometimes we don`t like anyone to help us with decorating our house but it is worth to see some kind of fashion magazine that will also have a few pages about home decor and it will bring you some really great decorating ideas. The purpose is to show ourselves in our homes. Of course if we know how to do it we don`t have to read anything or listen to anyone. But who knows how to make it really good?
